CNC Operator – Job Description Overview

We are seeking a skilled CNC Operator to join our manufacturing team. This role plays a critical part in producing high-quality parts while ensuring safety, efficiency, and adherence to engineering and customer requirements. The ideal candidate has strong mechanical aptitude, CNC experience, and attention to detail.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate CNC machines using basic control functions (emergency stop, reset, cycle start, feed hold, coolant and program status)
  • Load and unload materials safely, ensuring proper clamping before cycle start
  • Perform deburring using hand and power tools to meet quality requirements
  • Inspect parts per Process Data Records (PDR) and accurately document results
  • Identify defects such as tool wear, casting imperfections, porosity, or missing features
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area, including chip removal and coolant maintenance
  • Complete all required documentation (LITs, PDRs, scrap tags, MES labor tracking)
  • Perform minor machine maintenance, including coolant level and concentration checks
  • Use pressure testers and verify master parts pass/fail requirements
  • Set up, calibrate, and operate machinery according to safety and production standards
  • Conduct pre-production checks and troubleshoot machining issues as needed
  • Collaborate with Quality and Maintenance teams to ensure first-piece approval and ongoing production success

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 2+ years of CNC operator experience
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and basic math skills
  • Basic M & G code knowledge
  • Change tools (inserts, taps, face mills)
  • Adjust tool offsets and tool compensation
  • Pick up offsets using edge finders or indicators
  • Edit, load, and unload CNC programs
  • Perform full machine setups, including fixtures and tooling
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and maneuver heavier parts with a hoist
  • Comfortable working in a manufacturing environment with noise, vibration, and airborne particles

Experience:

  • CNC: 2 years (Required)
  • Blueprint reading: 1 year (Required)
  • CNC lathe: 1 year (Preferred)
